Primrose of the Year 2024!

The results are in and the winner of our annual Primrose Festival competition has been announced. After a record number of more than 2000 votes, Primula Rosebud Salmon Peach has been crowned top of the blooms!

With its contrasting shades of petals, this chameleon colour changer is one of the prettiest plants you can grow in your garden. In second place was Rosebud Rose Shade, followed by Fireflies Bloom Yellow and RAESberry Rose in joint third.

Each year, we celebrate the arrival of spring with our joyful Primrose Festival. It’s an opportunity to see hundreds of different varieties of primroses and vote for your favourite to be in with a chance of winning a garden hamper worth £100.

This year’s event was the biggest to date with the garden centre also showcasing an incredible array of Primula from internationally acclaimed Belgian grower Rudy Raes Bloemzaden. The team hosted three special events to reveal more about their innovative new varieties and share some top growing tips.

Barton Grange Plant Area Manager Will Clark says:

“This year’s Primrose Festival was a blooming success! We had a record number of votes and the greenhouse has never looked so bright and beautiful. There are so many new and experimental varieties to choose from so why not try something different this year?
It was also a real thrill to welcome Rudy to the garden centre for the first time. He’s a bit of a legend in the world of plant breeding so it was a fantastic opportunity to hear from him about all the exciting new hardy varieties they are producing.”
