It's our 60th Anniversary!
Barton Grange is celebrating its 60th anniversary of growing success! It was on 10th May 1963 that our founder Eddie Topping opened the North West’s first garden centre in a small shed next to the car park of his parent’s hotel in Barton, Preston.
From these humble beginnings, Eddie’s new venture blossomed and grew to become one of the most successful businesses in the region.
Today Barton Grange Garden Centre, now based at Brock, with The Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre and Barton Grange Marina is a multi-award winning landmark destination that attracts more than 600,000 visitors a year.
To mark the milestone event, special anniversary displays have been installed throughout the centre. Watch this space to discover what else we have planned for our anniversary year!
Guy Topping says: “My family were originally market gardeners. When my father joined the business in the mid 1950’s he set up Barton Grange Landscapers within the grounds of the hotel and in the early 1960’s Barton Grange Garden Centre was set up in a 12ft by 15ft shed – a bit different to what we have today!
“With the curling rink, we wanted to add something that would enhance the garden centre and decided to opt for an indoor leisure experience. We very much wanted to make The Flower Bowl unique.”
